Original_Hirst_IfeHead

Side by side of Damien Hirst’s “Golden head (female)” 2017 and the original “Ife Head” by a Yoruba artist in the 15th century.

Two images of sculptures side by side. On the left, a gold sculpture in the shape of a female head with no hair. Scarification is visible going vertically across the entire face. The sculpture is almost identical to the 15th century Ife sculpture from present-day Nigeria on the right. The sculpture on the right is made of brass and is wearing a headdress with red pigment and a diadem.
