The acknowledgement reads, “The Metropolitan Museum of Art is situated on the Lenape island of Manhattan (Mannahatta) in Lenapehoking, the Lenape homeland. We pay respect to the Lenape peoples–past, present, and future–and their contributing presence in the homeland and throughout the Lenape diaspora.
The following greeting is written in two dialects of Lenape, Unami and Munsee, and in English, “We are glad because you people came to Lenapehoking. Live well while you are here.”
