Augustus Caesar, Rome, Nubia

Head of Augustus (Bronze, 27-25 BCE) on display in the British Museum’s “I Object” Exhibition in the same position it was found during excavation in present-day Sudan in 1911.

A bronze head of former emperor Augustus Caesar has a green patina from age. His face is clean shaven and he has a short haircut with soft curls around his forehead. The statue lies on its side with the cheek of the statue against the ground. The glass and stone eyes stare out into infinity.
