Initially the V&A was a learning institution for craftspeople to study objects made by master craftspeople through the centuries. As many people weren’t (and aren’t) wealthy enough to take a trip and see the original pieces in their original locations, the V&A housed plaster copies and other replicas for reference. This method, along with the 1851 Great Exhibition (the first World’s Fair), started the museum’s collection focusing on “applied art”/decorative arts and design. Now the collection has both copies and originals from around the globe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #marabouatthemuseum #museums #londonmuseums #marabouinlondon #london #museumstudies #victoriaandalbertmuseum #decorativearts #decorativeart #design #appliedarts #thedavid #david #michelangelo #plastercast #plastercasting #copy #craft #craftsmanship #teachingcollection #henrycole #princealbert #queenvictoria #victorian #deerstalker #1851 #1851greatexhibition #worldsfair A post shared by Marabou (@marabou_at_the_museum) on Sep 30, 2018 at 9:47am PDT Share this:TwitterFacebookLike this:Like Loading...
