Food for Thought Friday

museum, marabou

This is the first Food for Thought Friday! Instead of a post detailing their thoughts or feelings on the museum world, Marabou is posing some questions to consider as we make our way into the weekend. Today, Marabou is thinking about the official meaning of “museum” according to the dictionary and what museums have come to mean and represent.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “museum” means: an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of objects of lasting interest or value. “Museum” can also mean a place where objects are exhibited.

Taking a closer look at the dictionary definition, does the idea of a museum as a place filled with “objects of lasting interest or value” relate to or influence your museum experience?

Beyond this official definition, what does “museum” mean to you?

For Marabou, there are no right or wrong answers to these questions since a very real experience shaped your perception.

What is your most memorable museum experience and what could have been done to make it more meaningful?
